[ The Feed comes on to Sakura sitting in the sand. Behind her, an Arcanine is running with a terrified-looking Minccino on its back. A frantic Ledian is chasing them from the air. ]

Is it on now, Kero-chan? It is? Okay, uh, hi everyone! [ She beams brightly. ] Um, today's my birthday. I'm turning twelve!

[ She looks past the 'Gear, presumably towards the ocean. ]

I might not be able to spend it with my family, but at least I'll get to spend it with all my friends here. Plus, twelve is older than eleven! I'll be able to do more stuff now. Soon, my brother won't even be able to call me a kid!

[ Her grin is triumphant for only a moment before it's replaced by a startled look when her Arcanine roars. She cranes her neck to look behind her. ]

A-ah! Toto, stop it! You're scaring Yuki!

[ She jumps up and takes off towards them, stumbling and falling once or twice. The 'Gear is dropped to the sand as her Ursaring runs after to help. ]

And I feel certain that if Chitose-kun and your brother were here, they'd agree with me. Which makes the sides even, I suppose, and puts us at a stalemate for the moment.

Have you decided yet how you intend to celebrate your birthday?

But they're not here, so there. [ As if that really decides something, Sakura. ]

I'll probably just have some cake with Miyuki-chan and play with my Pokemon.

Then perhaps I ought to do it three times as much, to pick up their slack in their absence.

That sounds like a fine way of spending the day.

That's cheating! You can't cheat like that, it's not fair.

[ Still pouting: ] It's better than spending it alone, at least.

But you don't think two against one is equally unfair? It is you and Chitose-san against me alone, after all.

And I hope it never comes to that for you, Sakura-san. Spending a birthday alone isn't a pleasant experience at all, believe me.

At least me and Miyuki-chan are actually here. And besides, we're younger than you, so it's totally fair.

[ She tilts her head slightly. ] Have you ever spent a birthday alone, Yagyuu-san?

Ah, so the two of you add up to one of me? I'll remember that.

[The smile on his face doesn't waver here, even with the shift in the conversation's tenor; his self-control is as impeccable as ever, and he keeps his words light and casual.]

Something like that. I wasn't on my own by any means, but there was someone I wanted to see, and that person wasn't there.

Oh. [ She looks down at her lap. ] Even though I have Miyuki-chan here to celebrate with, I wish my family or Syaoran-kun were here. So I think I can understand how you feel.

Syaoran-kun?

[ An automatic smile comes over her features as she looks up again. ]

Uh-huh! He's my number one person. [ AKA her boyfriend. ] But he's all the way in my world.

[Oh, here it goes. It's been so long since he had the chance to cheerfully pick on his little sister, after all.]

Aren't you a little young to have a number-one person?

Nuh-uh! I'm twelve, remember?

I'm fairly certain you have to be at least thirteen before you're allowed something so important.

That's not true! Chiharu-chan and Rika-chan have boyfriends, too, and they're the same age as me!

That doesn't mean they should be allowed to have them, either.

[ An aggravated look. ] I think twelve is old enough to have a number one person! My mama was only sixteen when she married my daddy!

[...well, that got awkwardly personal surprisingly fast.]

Is that your aspiration, too?

[ She opens her mouth to respond, then... pauses. And looks down. And blushes. ]

N-no. Syaoran-kun is in Hong Kong anyway, and I don't know when he's coming back.

[Any other person would probably be dead of cute at this point; as it is, Yagyuu's kind of mildly amused.]

That's quite a distance to be separated from your most special person.

I know. He has business to take care of there. He said he'll be back when he's done, but he doesn't know how long it'll take. I promised I'd wait for him, though!

And that's quite a promise. What is it about him, that makes him so special?

He's just the best. He's helped me in a bunch of different ways. He's helped me be brave, and he cheers me up when I cry.

[ He's also been there to help her with sealing the Clow Cards and turning them into Sakura Cards. But she's not really supposed to tell people about that. ]

Because he loves me as much as I love him.

[He's just kind of...silently considering that a minute. It's not the sort of description he'd subscribe to in the least, and yet there's something compelling in her frankness and naivete — she says it so simply, so earnestly, like it's really that easy.]

I can see why you'd want to wait for him, then.

[ For her, it really is that easy. ]

I'll wait for him, no matter how long it takes! I'll wait for him to get here, and when he does, we'll travel all over together, and we'll raise our Pokemon together. It'll be the best!
